Met Office weather presenter Luke Miall explained that Scotland and parts of Northern England could see the heaviest showers through the day. He added that the thunderstorms may also result in hail showers and lead to flash flooding. The meteorologist explained: “Quite a warm humid start today and we have got some showers around as well.
“There will be some heavy outbreaks of rain across some central and northern areas but some of us staying dry across the south.
“It will be a dry start for some central parts of Scotland but away from that, there are a fair few showers knocking around.
“Most of those showers now clearing parts of Northern Ireland but some of the heaviest rain through northern England and Northern Wales and that is where we are continuing to see outbreaks of rain.
“Generally dry across the south and could even be some brightness first thing Thursday morning but on the hazy side.”

“As the morning goes on we will start to see some heavy showers breaking out across the north and east, there could be some thunderstorms here.
“So we do have a weather warning in force for those, some quite widespread thunderstorms to come through the afternoon.
‘We may just catch quite heavy downpours with those as well, some lightning giving the risk of some flash flooding.
“You can really see those showers starting to kick off along the eastern coast as the afternoon goes on.

“There could be some quite lively downpours, some hail mixed in as well.”
The Met Office meteorologist explained that temperatures will remain fairly high across the country despite the heavy rainfall.
He noted that it could reach around 27C in the southeast and the rest of the south would remain quite widely in the 20s.
The north of the UK, most notably Scotland would see temperatures around 18 degrees but won’t quite reach more than 20C.

Going into Friday for large parts of the south it will remain dry but cloudy with the odd shower here and the east coast of the UK should see a reduction in showers.
Mr Miall continued: “Tomorrow it will still feel fairly warm out there and we will start to see things turn fresher as the cold front clears southwards.
“On Friday and the weekend, the high pressure is expected to build back in.
“This weekend is set to be fair for most of us, there will be some showers around but for many of us it is going to be turning drier with plenty of sunshine.”
