TEMPERATURES might seem cool so far this week, but according to forecasters, the mercury is set to soar this weekend. Could we see the hottest day of the year?
UK weather: Chart shows HEATWAVE to hit in June
Saturday is the first day of June, and it seems summer weather is on the way as the month begins. The Met Office has said whilst the next few days will be cool and changeable with some wet spells, the UK will soon warm up as it heads to the weekend. A Met Office spokeswoman said much of the country will enjoy balmy weather on Saturday, with temperatures expected to reach 27C in central regions and the south-east.
She said: “If that does happen, it’ll be the hottest day of the year.
“So far, April 19 holds the record, when temperatures reached 25.8C in Cornwall.
“Before then, things will be changeable. There’ll be sunny and wet spells tomorrow.
“This will be followed by much of the country experiencing cloudy and rainy conditions on Wednesday and Thursday.

"But it will feel considerably warmer on Friday and, by Saturday, temperatures are expected to be in the low to mid-twenties throughout the UK.”
If the temperature does reach it’s predicted level the UK could see weather hater than Barcelona, Ibiza and St Tropez which are all forecast to have temperatures of low to mid 20C.
Met Office meteorologist Marco Petagna said: “We will start to see things turning warmer and drier, especially across southern regions, around Thursday.
“By Saturday we could see 27C (80.6F) in some parts and with humidity, it is potentially going to feel very warm.
“We could bet a bit warmer than this depending on how long this spell lasts, it is being driven by an Azores High bringing air in from the Continent.
“The highest temperature we have seen this year is 25.8C (78.44F) and we are likely to beat that.”
According to bookmakers Betway, it’s just 4/6 for a temperature of 30c or more to be recorded in the UK this weekend.
Barcelona, 1/7, Ibiza, 1/3 and St Tropez, 5/4, could all be eclipsed by UK readings over the next 72 hours according to the online bookmaker, who also offer 6/4 for June to be a record hot month.
The current hottest day of 2019, 25.8C recorded in Cornwall earlier this year, is just 1/4 with Betway to be broken this weekend.
Betway spokesman Alan Alger said: “The sun looks set to have its hat on this weekend and we are expecting some very hot temperatures.
“The 25.8c recorded in Cornwall earlier this year is heavily odds-on at 1/4 to be bettered this weekend, while it’s 6/4 for the warm weather to last and lead to a record hot June.
“London looks to set to be one of the hottest places in the UK this weekend and we’re odds-on at 1/3 for temperatures in the capital to eclipse those on the party island of Ibiza.”
