BBC weather: SNOW WARNING - Arctic FREEZE hits UK tomorrow amid travel chaos fear
BBC weather warns the UK is braced for a subzero temperature plunge tomorrow before a blanket of snow hits parts of the country and sparks a risk of travel chaos.
Weather: Europe set for SNOW and strong winds
Britain is braced for a dramatic plunge in temperatures in less than 24 hours, with latest forecasts predicting a winter snow blast this week. Freezing Arctic winds could see temperatures plummet to -2C tonight before dropping as low as -5C later this week. The subzero plunge raises the prospect of a White Christmas but has also sparked fears of widespread travel chaos.
Scotland and northern England are the most likely regions to face snow frost overnight.
BBC meteorologist Simon King said: "The clearest skies will be in the east where frost will develop.
"Eastern Scotland and eastern England will see temperatures drop to -2C tonight."
Snow will blanket these areas of Britain, where the colder air meets the wet weather.
Met Office: UK issued with SNOW warning as temperatures plunge
Eastern Scotland and eastern England will see temperatures drop to -2C tonight
This is most likely to take place over the hills in the north, but it may fall to lower levels in places too.
King explained that high pressure over Scandinavia is pushing the Arctic chill towards the UK.
The Arctic vortex from the continent could also trigger winds of up to 60mph this week.
The Met Office forecast read: "Rain across the far west on Tuesday will turn patchier as it reaches eastern areas by Wednesday.
"Heavier rain, stronger winds and possibly hill snow by Thursday."
