A brave six-year-old boy ran to his sister's rescue, saving her from a vicious dog attack, which resulted in him being hospitalised with over 90 stitches.

Bridger Walker, hailing from Wyoming, suffered severe injuries to his face and head after a German Shepard mix launched a brutal assault in 2020, leaving behind "a lot of blood".

When asked why he had risked his life for his sister, the young hero responded: "If someone had to die, I thought it should be me."

Bridger, a keen Marvel enthusiast, was thrilled when several actors from the popular franchise applauded his bravery. Chris Evans, known for his role as Captain America, told him: "Pal, you're a hero."

The siblings were visiting a friend's house when the dog unleashed its fury, their aunt Nicole Walker reported, reports the Mirror.

According to Bridger's family, he recounted the events leading up to the attack, describing how he and his sister were playing with two dogs in the garden.

He identified one as the "nice dog" and the other as the "mean one".

When the "mean one" lunged at his sister, Bridger instinctively stepped in between them. Unfazed, the dog continued its charge, leaping up to bite his cheek and clamping down with its jaw.

Bridger instructed his sister to flee, and once he managed to escape the dog's grip, he hid in another part of the garden while the dog's owners restrained the animal.

The six-year-old then dashed inside the property and contacted emergency services.

His frightened relatives reported there was a "lot of blood", and firefighters arriving at the location requested to remove his shirt.

Poignantly, Bridger replied: "My mum likes me in this shirt". He was transported to hospital by ambulance, where he underwent nearly two hours of surgery receiving 90 stitches to his face.

A doctor informed Bridger he was the "bravest patient" they had ever treated. The family said: "The only time he cried was when he got the IV."

His relatives described him as an "absolute joy" and "full of love" adding, "it was no surprise that he stepped up to the plate in a major way".

In Evans' message to Bridger he said: "Hey Bridger, Captain America here. How you doing buddy? So I read your story, I saw what you did.

"Now I'm sure you've heard a lot of this over the last couple of days but let me be the next one to tell you - pal, you're a hero. Your sister is so lucky to have you as a big brother. Your parents must be so proud of you."
