A Royal Caribbean passenger has died after "jumping" over 80 feet from the world's largest cruise ship, according to reports.

The man, who has not been identified, reportedly leapt from the Icon of the Seas shortly after it set off from Florida on Sunday.

The incident on occurred on the first night of his week-long trip to Honduras, The New York Post reports.

"The cruise ship deployed one of their rescue boats, located the man and brought him back aboard," the Coast Guard told the outlet.

"He was pronounced deceased. Beyond assisting in the search, the US Coast Guard did not have much involvement in this incident."

The vessel was around 300 miles from PortMiami when the man jumped, according to cruise blog CruiseHive.

The 1,200-foot-long ship was then stopped for about two hours as a search and rescue operation was carried out.

The man was reportedly in critical condition when he was brought back aboard. He was declared dead on the ship.

The 1,200-foot-long Icon of the Seas is a new vessel in the company's fleet, having made its debut in January.

It comes after a 20-year-old man jumped overboard from Royal Caribbean cruise ship Liberty of the Seas in April, in front of his horrified family.

The 18-story vessel was travelling between Cuba and the Bahamas' Grand Inagua Island when the incident occurred.

Royal Caribbean has been approached via email for comment.
