SEEING DOUBLE: Theresa May and Angela Merkel BOTH wear ROYAL BLUE at NATO Summit
THERESA May and Angela Merkel are used to butting heads at the negotiating table but now the two leaders have also clashed in the wardrobe department.
Theresa May wears royal blue for first day of NATO Summit
Theresa May and Angela Merkel both wore royal blue jackets during the first day of the two-day summit in Brussels this morning.
Mrs May will meet Mrs Merkel later today but the German Chancellor has so far been distracted by US president Donald Trump, who has lashed out at Germany.
Mr Trump accused Mrs Merkel of having an “inappropriate relationship” with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
He said: “Germany pays billions and billions of dollars to Russia every year for gas.
“But Germany wants us [the US] to protect it from Russia.
“I think that is inappropriate.
“Germany is a captive of Russia. It gets 70 percent of its energy from Russia.
"Germany is totally controlled by Russia.”
Mrs May will host Mr Trump in the UK this week with one political expert warning the US president would be the “guest from hell”.
Ian Bond, director of Foreign Policy and the Centre for European Reform, said: “Trump’s visit will be more of a minefield than manna from heaven for the Prime Minister.
"He is hugely unpopular in the UK, and her invitation to him to pay a State Visit attracted a lot of criticism."
