Body pulled from Leeds river after police search for teenage boy
WEST Yorkshire Police pulled a body from the River Aire in Leeds in the early hours of this morning following a search and rescue mission for a teenage boy overnight.
Last night officers responded to reports of after reports of a 17-year-old male entering the water.
A police helicopter, officers, paramedics and firefighters were all called to the scene at 6.45pm on Tuesday.
At about 8.20pm Tuesday, a tweet from the official Twitter account for NPAS, the force helicopter based at Carr Gate in Wakefield confirmed it was assisting in the search after a man was seen entering the water.
A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said the body was recovered from the River Aire at about 1.30am Wednesday, adding: ”Enquiries are ongoing.”
The busy retail park near where the body was found is home to Vue cinema, Hollywood Bowl and a string of popular restaurants.
The force’s official Twitter account later tweeted: “West Yorkshire Police would like to remind the public about the dangers of swimming in lakes/reservoirs/rivers and canals during the hot weather.”
