Farage pokes fun at Emily Thornberry in English flag video
The former Ukip leader tweeted a video of a London estate in Bermondsey covered with England flags, with the caption: "Whatever you do, don't show this video to Emily Thornberry."
The Shadow Foreign Secretary was famously sacked by Ed Miliband for a tweet of a St George’s cross flown in the Rochester by-election, that was seen widely as disrespectful.
She published the picture on the internet with the caption: "Image from Rochester."
The MP for Islington South and Finsbury took the snap while canvassing on polling day in the by-election in Rochester and Strood.
Her tweet provoked a furious backlash on Twitter, with other users of the micro-blogging site accusing her of "outrageous snobbery" and "sneering at working people."
Hundreds of people responded to her Tweet with mocking comments.
The row was being seen as a huge embarrassment for Labour leader Ed Miliband, fuelling concerns that his party is out-of-touch with working-class voters and dominated by Metropolitan liberals.
Nigel Farage's hilarious swipe comes as postmen and delivery drivers were barred from displaying St George's flags or stickers while working on Wednesday – for health and safety reasons.
Bosses claimed the patriotic symbols could blow off workers' their trolleys, bicycles, vans and lorries and become "hazards".
Jacob Rees-Mogg: England flag ban is 'silly' and 'bureaucratic'
Whatever you do, don't show this video to Emily Thornberry
The controversial ban will affect all of the Royal Mail's 125,000 delivery staff, based at 1,400 delivery depots across the UK.
Reacting to the news, Brexit-backing Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg took a deep sigh before branding the decision “boring, silly and bureaucratic”.
Mr Rees-Mogg said: “Oh, just so boring, petty-fogging, silly, bureaucratic.
“Does the Post Office want to get into the news for some reason in a bad way?
“It is just so silly.
“Every World Cup there is an event like this, some silly bureaucrat in some business comes up with an idea like this.
“They will back down within 48 hours because it just is absurd.”
A Royal Mail spokesman defended the ban, claiming St George's flags could obscure the view of their drivers.
He said: "Flags should not be flown as Royal Mail has a duty of care both to all employees and to members of the public.
"It's a company-wide policy across the business which covers flags and stickers and covers trollies, bikes, vans and lorries."
