Leave Means Leaves chief says this is ONE THING 'Orwellian EU' TRULY fears
LEADING BREXITEER John Longworth has ripped into the European Union branding the Brussels club as an “Orwellian state” and revealed what the bloc truly fear when the UK cuts ties.
John Longworth: EU nanny-state fears a deregulated Britain
The co-chair of Leave Means Leave said that the European Union fears a deregulated Britain post-Brexit.
Mr Longworth added that if Britain is successful in deregulating EU red-tape, other EU states would grow frustrated with Brussels.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Mr Longworth said: “The EU fear a deregulated Britain, not just the financial sector because the EU has created a sort of nanny state where people are restricted from doing things.
“It is sort of an Orwellian approach where big brother knows best and you will do what I say.
John Longworth branded the EU 'Orwellian.'
“Britain, in a deregulated environment will demonstrate that the British people are actually better not having that Orwellian Big Brother state loaded on them.
“Brussels fear that massively because if Britain thrives and prospers after leaving the EU in a deregulated environment it will demonstrate how bad the EU is.
“Of course, all of those bureaucrats in Brussels who earn a living producing regulation, they are there to do nothing else but to push regulations out.
“Suddenly they will find the people of Europe ask them the question, ‘why are we paying you so much money to do this when all it is doing is making us poorer?’”
John Longworth: Barnier would approve Canada-style deal
If Britain thrives and prospers after leaving the EU in a deregulated environment it will demonstrate how bad the EU is
The Government has suggested the UK would stay aligned to the European Union's regulation in some sectors post-Brexit and use an independent arbitration mechanism to handle disputes.
During his Vienna speech last month, the Brexit Secretary called for “mutual recognition” between two regulatory regimes which would avoid trade barriers.
He said: “We start from a position of total alignment, with unprecedented experience in working with
“The agreement we strike will not be about convergence but what we do when one of us
The EU’s draft paper followed, which suggested Northern Ireland should remain in the customs union, also
It also read: “The common regulatory area shall constitute an area without internal borders in which the free movement of goods is ensured and north-south cooperation protected.”
Mr Longworth also outlined the kind of deal he thought the UK would eventually leave the EU with.
He said:
“That will be our bedrock approach to trade. We will have an independent sovereign state, the UK which will be able to set its own laws, control its own borders and set its own regulations.
“But also, in addition to that, we will have a free trade deal between the UK and the EU between two sovereign states which is like the deal that the EU and Canada have, that will simply enable the free flow of goods.
“All this nonsense about traffic queues at Dover, the custom arrangements, it’s just admin, if you have a free trade deal nothing applies to those goods anyway so it really is scaremongering.”
