Night Watcher burglar pointed gun at my head, says victim
A VICTIM of the Night Watcher burglar has told how she stayed quiet as he pointed a sawn-off shotgun at her head because she wanted to protect her daughter, who was doing her homework in her bedroom.
Surrey Police issued CCTV stills of the man during an armed raid of a house in Maidenhead
The intruder struck in November 2016 after secretly surveying the house and working out the movements of those living there.
The Night Watcher, who police believe could be a serving or former soldier because of his methodical way of operating, has taken property worth £1million in seven burglaries across the Home Counties.
Reliving the nightmare, the unnamed woman, who lives near Sevenoaks, Kent, said: “It was a very ordinary Tuesday evening. My daughter and I had something to eat and she went upstairs to do her homework.
“I came into the study to finish some emails for the day. Then I became aware of the dog barking aggressively, which was unusual, so I went out to see what was alarming him.”
I was terrified
She looked outside, did not see anything and then went back to her study to continue working before settling down to watch EastEnders.
She added: “I turned in my chair and there was a guy in a balaclava dressed in dark clothing pointing a shotgun at my head. I was terrified because my daughter was in the house.
“That was the motivation for trying to stay calm and make sure that the man left my home as soon as possible.”
After the burglary, she questioned her actions as the emotional impact of her brush with death hit home.
She said: “I was angry. Had I dealt with it in the right way?”
Police, who have appealed for help from the public, are reluctant to give any more details of the victims.
But Detective Inspector Dee Fielding, of Surrey Police, said: “We have had a brilliant reaction to our appeal which will hopefully bring an offender to justice.”
