Ladies recreate naughty pictures from hit film Calendar Girls for charity - with a TWIST
LADIES from a Women’s Institute branch have recreated naughty images made famous in the hit film Calendar Girls – but there’s a twist.
An iconic scene from the hit film Calendar Girls that has been recreated by members of Halwill WI
Rather than pose naked themselves, members of Halwill WI in Devon knitted the figures instead.
The images have been captured in a 2018 calendar which has already sold out.
Halwill WI president Ann Godspeed got the idea for the naked knits when she saw a book of knitting patterns called Nudinits that featured an entire village of nude knitted characters.
Ann, 68, said: “I do crafts and knitting and sewing and I saw this book called Nudinits and it just made me giggle.

We sold out of the 100 we had within a fortnight and so we ordered another 100
“I thought, ‘I’d love to do those, but what would you use them for?’
“Then I had the idea that we could redo the WI ladies calendar and sell them round the village, because we normally do a little bit of fundraising each year.
“There were five volunteers that were willing to do some knitting and we always have a craft day once a month anyway, so that’s where it started.
“We’d just sit there and chat and laugh.”
It took members of Halwill WI in Devon around seven months to complete all the characters
Ann and her team have been stunned at the response to their Knaked Calendar 2018.
“We sold out of the 100 we had within a fortnight and so we ordered another 100.
“Since the National Federation of Women’s Institutes put it on their website we’ve been inundated.”
Ann said it took around seven months to complete all the characters, while husbands and friends helped to make the furniture.
Five volunteers knitted all the calendar's characters
The nude knits were inspired by the 2003 British comedy film based on the true story of a group of Yorkshire WI ladies who produced a calendar of themselves naked to raise money for charity.
It’s not the first time Halwill WI ladies have had everyone in stitches with their knitting projects.
“In the village a few years ago there weren’t any Christmas decorations up at all, so we turned the bollards on the pavements into carol singers.
“We knitted hats and scarves and put them all on the bollards.
“Everybody was so pleased,” said Ann.
