LABOUR has dropped an inquiry into alleged inappropriate behaviour by one of its leading politicians.
Carl Sargeant killed himself four days after being sacked from the Welsh government
Father-of-two Carl Sargeant killed himself four days after being sacked from the Welsh government following allegations made by a number of women.
Labour said it was now no longer able to take the investigation forward.
Relatives complained that Mr Sargeant, 49, did not know what allegations he was facing.
But Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones said the party had acted properly over the issue.
Reactions to the death of former Welsh minister Carl Sargeant
I’m confident that I did everything as I should have done
He said: “I’m confident that I did everything as I should have done.
“Could I have done something different? No.
"The only way I could have done it different would have been to have ignored the allegations.”
Labour general secretary Iain McNicol has written to the family to say the case has been “closed”.

However Mr Jones is facing a separate investigation into how he handled the case.
An inquiry is also examining allegations of bullying within the Welsh government.
In the letter Mr McNicol said: “It is no longer possible to take forward any investigation under our procedures and therefore the Labour party deems its investigation closed.”
