Chuka Umunna ATTACKS Theresa May for 'diminishing' UK position during Brexit talks
STAUNCH Remainer Chuka Umunna launched a scathing attack on Theresa May for undermining the UK's position at the Brexit talks table with Brussels.
Chuka Umunna slams May for 'diminishing' UK in Brexit talks
The Streatham MP blasted the Prime Minister for jeopardising the future of Brexit Britain by failing to rein in her Cabinet.
Mr Umunna said: "The serious point is: if you look at what has happened in Government and the Conservative party over the last few months, some people see a soap opera but this actually going to have a real effect on everybody.
"It impacts on her standing on the international stage, and when we need a Prime Minister to go in with as much authority as possible and get the best deal for Britain at the negotiating table with the other EU partners, they watch this and it totally diminishes her."
The Labour MP said Theresa May was affecting the result of the Brexit talks with Brussels
He also claimed Cabinet tensions are destroying Mrs May's authority and credibility in Brussels.
Speaking to ITV's After the News, Mr Umunna continued: "The circus that is the Cabinet at the moment rips the authority from her and they don’t take her seriously. That’s against national interest!"
However Mrs May delivered a hard hit to Brussels when she warned the British public to prepare to leave the EU without a deal, setting out plans to avoid issues arising from the divorce.
Speaking to MPs in the House of Commons, Mrs May set out the "steps to minimise disruption" as Britain leaves the EU and admitted she believes the deadlocked talks will rumble on for another year before a possible breakthrough.

Taking aim at Brussels, Mrs May said the “ball’s in their court” showing her willingness to progress without a deal.
She said: “While I believe it is profoundly in all our interests for the negotiations to succeed, it is also our responsibility as a Government to prepare for every eventuality, so that is exactly what we are doing.
“These white papers also support that work, including setting out steps to minimise disruption for business and travellers.”
However, the Prime Minister’s comments were rebuffed by Brussels, who claimed the ball was, in fact, in Mrs May’s court.
