Hannan slaps down Adonis for using Bombardier row in anti-Brexit claims
BREXITEER MEP Daniel Hannan has slapped down Lord Adonis for using the Bomdardier row in an argument against leaving the European Union.
Thousands of Bombardier jobs at risk due to US tarrif
The remarks came after Labour peer Lord Adonis referred to Tory MEP’s comments on the single market as “total idiocy” during a spat on Twitter.
Mr Hannan had initially posted a comment on the social media site declaring the Bombardier tariff “won’t put America first”.
He said: “It will destroy jobs in aviation and raise prices.”
The US Department of Commerce has imposed a tariff of nearly 220 per cent on imports on a new model passenger jet made by Bombardier risking thousands of UK jobs.
Mr Hannan (L) reminded Lord Adonis (R) that this row is occuring while Britain is still in the EU
The Bombardier tariff won’t put America first, it will destroy jobs in aviation and raise prices.
The cyber argument erupted when Lord Adonis wrote to Mr Hannan: “It also undermines your 'free trade' argument for leaving the EU.”
Mr Hannan, also President of the Institute for Free Trade, reminded remoaner Lord Adonis the Bombardier result had happened while Britain remains in the EU and while it does not have a free trade agreement with the US.
He said: “It is happening while we're in the EU, and consequently have no FTA with the United States.”
It was then that Lord Adonis replied: “I forgot to drink the cool aid – in the brave new world after Brexit, Trump magics into Prince Charming. Total idiocy.”

But Mr Hannan hit back: “You are seizing on something that's happening while we're in the EU and presenting it as a problem with Brexit.”
It comes after Boeing complained that the company had been given unfair state aid from the UK and Canada.
The ruling was a setback to Mrs May’s hopes of a swift UK-US trade deal after Britain leaves the European Union. She has appealed to President Trump to intervene in the dispute.
Earlier this year Lord Adonis came under fire after he compared Brexit to appeasing the Nazis.
Following the remarks, he also told the BBC that if the country was to have a hard Brexit, “then I do believe this will be the worst mistake this country has made since the 1930s.”
Just yesterday, MEP Mr Hannan said Brexit will be a success and in 10 years time, we’ll be asking “why didn’t we leave earlier?”
Speaking during a segment on Channel 4 News, the politician insisted that trade with the European Union was not an “act of generosity.”
He said: “In fact, every non-EU country in Europe, with the sole exception of Belarus, has free trade with the EU. It’s possible to have a common market without a common government.”
