Getting your oats twice a day is key to long life, says oldest family
THE world’s oldest family, whose ages add up to 1,075 years, say the key to their long lives is...porridge.
The Donnelly family from Northern Ireland credit porridge for their long lives
The Donnellys, from County Armagh in Northern Ireland, hold the world record for their impressive lifespan.
And they insist “having their oats” twice a day – at breakfast and before bed – has kept them fit into old age.
Leo Donnelly, 72, the youngest of 13 siblings aged up to 93, said: “The key is that you need to get your oats at night. Porridge at around 10pm, then porridge again for breakfast at 7am. Cooked oats, milk, perhaps a spot of jam.
“It has always stood us well. People thought it was unusual, but now the living proof is there for all to see.”

Leo claims that the farming family’s wholesome organic diet accounts for its remarkable health.
He said: “The farm oats in our porridge were always local and of the finest quality. Our diet has never been from processed of polluted foods.”
