THE bomb squad have carried out a controlled explosions at Manchester Airport after a "suspicious bag" was discovered.

Manchester Airport said there is a “potential issue with a bag” in Terminal Three as the bomb sqaud scrambled to the scene.
A spokesman for the airport said: “Due to a potential issue with a bag in Terminal Three, a precautionary evacuation is taking place while further investigations take place.”
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "Police were called at 8.50am on Wednesday 5 July 2017 to reports of a suspicious package at Manchester Airport.

“Officers are responding and a precautionary evacuation of terminal three has taken place.
“Bomb disposal officers attended and a series of controlled explosions were carried out of the package.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
Pictures have emerged of passengers left stranded on the tarmac.
The airport has said Terminals 1 and 2 are unaffected.
It has since released an updated statement to passengers, which reads: "Following the incident this morning, only Terminal 3 is affected.
"Passengers using Terminals 1 and 2 should travel as normal.

"Passengers departing from Terminal 3 should go to Terminal 1 for more information.
"Passengers ariving into Terminal 3 will be brough in through Terminal One at present."
Kate Feld, a writer from Ramsbottom, was checking in for her flight to Philadelphia when the evacuation took place.
She told the Manchester Evening News: “There was an announcement: everyone had to leave. It was being evacuated. The man said it was just a drill. Clearly this was not the case in retrospect. On the airfield they have taken all of the people off the planes and the buses.
“One flight just did take off. One friend is on a bus. She was waiting to fly out and is now on a bus. Nobody is telling us what is going on. There has been no announcement. A man has come out to tell us to get further back.”
It comes after holidaymakers faced chaos yesterday when the airport's Terminal 1 was evcacuated due to a major leak.

Manchester Airport is the third biggest airport in the country and sees 22 million passengers pass through its doors each year.
