‘He would negotiate the WORST deal with the BIGGEST bill!’ May condemns Corbyn over Brexit
THERESA May has lashed out at Jeremy Corbyn over criticism of her Brexit tactics, arguing Britain would receive the “worst deal with the biggest bill” if the Labour leader was in charge.
Theresa May says Corbyn would get TERRIBLE Brexit deal
The Prime Minister also accused Jeremy Corbyn of turning his back on British citizens living in Europe and dismissed concerns about whether her protection of European Union citizens in the UK went far enough.
Mr Corbyn said offers to assure the rights of EU citizens living in the UK are "too little, too late" and prove the Government would use people as "bargaining chips" over Brexit.
The Labour leader raised claims that Mrs May had been the sole Cabinet member to oppose guaranteeing EU citizens rights after the referendum, as reported by the London Evening Standard, edited by Tory former chancellor George Osborne.
Mr Corbyn added: "This is people's lives we are talking about, our neighbours, friends, husbands, wives, children.
"The Prime Minister clearly didn't care about them then, why should they believe she cares about them now?"
He called on Theresa May to "finally rule out the possibility of no deal being a viable option for this country", but the Prime Minister claimed the Labour leader would "negotiate the worst deal".
Theresa May has hit out at Jeremy Corbyn over Brexit
A furious Mrs May hit back, telling the House of Commons: “He talks about the issue of no deal being better than a bad deal. I will tell him what I worry about a bad deal.
“I worry about those who appear to suggest in Europe that we should be punished in some sense for leaving the EU.
“I worry about those here - from what he says I think the leader of the opposition is in this particular camp - who says we should take any deal, regardless of the bill and regardless of the circumstances.
“He would negotiate the worst deal with the biggest possible bill.”
Mrs May specifically hit out at Mr Corbyn’s stance on UK citizens living in the EU.
She said: “I have to say to the Right Honourable gentleman that I find it bizarre if not worrying that in the position he holds he is willing to stand in this house and say he holds no care for UK citizens living in the EU. Because that is what he is saying.
Jeremy Corbyn shook his head after Mrs May's outburst
“It is one of the first issues that we are addressing after notification. They were clear it had to be negotiated on a reciprocal basis and they were clear that whatever the UK said, the EU would still be arguing about its proposals for the protection of rights of the EU citizens.”
She promised only the Tories could provide stable leadership during the ongoing EU negotiations.
Theresa May hit out at Jeremy Corbyn in the House of Commons this afternoon
Mrs May said: “He talks about no plan. I set out our objectives in that Lancaster House speech, in that Article 50 letter and have continued to set out the objectives.
“Whereas the Labour party has had seven plans on Brexit in nine months, we have got members of the Labour party front bench, the Shadow Home Secretary, the Shadow Chief Secretary, the Shadow Attorney General, who want to retain free movement. "We have 35 Labour MPs who want to retain membership of the single market. Neither of these, as I’m aware, are in the Labour party manifesto people stood on at the last election.”
