Students unleash their revenge on Nick Clegg who finally loses his seat to the Tories
NICK Clegg is one of the ‘big beasts’ to lose his seat at the General Election which has shocked the political establishment.
Despite keeping his seat in the 2015 election he lost out this time round
The former Liberal Democrat leader looks to have finally paid the price to reneging on his promise to scrap tuition fees, only to see it raised in his coalition with the Tories.
Despite keeping his seat in the 2015 election, it is thought a wider turnout among younger voters sealed his fate.
Labour’s Jared O’Mara stole the Sheffield Hallam seat with 21,881 votes, a majority of 2,125.
Turnout in the city, which has two universities, was 77.8 per cent.
Nick Clegg: I've never retreated from political battles
Nick Clegg represented the constituency since 2005, when he won with 51.1 per cent of the vote, 20,710.
In 2015 he narrowly defended his seat by just 2,353 votes.
In his congratulatory speech, Mr Clegg praised the Labour candidate on a "spectacular victory”.

Representing the constituency had been the greatest privilege in his political life, he added.
Mr Clegg said: “In my time in parliament, I have never shirked from political battles.
“I have never retreated from the political battlefield. I have always sought to stand by the liberal values I believe in.

You live by the sword, you die by the sword
"But I have, of course, encountered this evening something that many people have encountered before me tonight... you live by the sword, you die by the sword."
In the wake of his defeat social media has been rife with messages of support, jubilation at his defeat, and countless memes.
He reneged on his promise to scrap tuition fees
Lib Dems' leader Tim Farron has kept his seat of Westmorland and Lonsdale. However, his majority fell from 8,949 to just 777.
And party bigwig Sir Vince Cable, former business minister, was back after losing his seat in 2015, winning the Twickenham constituency from the Tories with a majority of 9,762.
Fellow equality minister Jo Swinson also won the seat in Dunbartonshire East from the SNP with a majority of 5,339.

Other 'big beasts' to lose their seats are SNP deputy leader, Angus Robertson, and the former first minister Alex Salmond.
Theresa May and the Conservatives saw an appalling night at the polls, losing seats and failing to win a majority resulting in a hung parliament.
Mrs May is facing calls to set down after her election gamble backfired, seeing the Tories lose at least 12 seats.
Labour and Jeremy Corbyn have emerged victorious after gaining 29 seats, clinching at least 40 per cent of the overall vote.
