Alan Piper, the Ukip candidate for Barrow and Furness, made the comparison in an interview on Newsnight, and claimed politicians like Mr Farage are “few and far between”.
He said: “I think Nigel Farage is the most honest man I’ve seen in politics for a lot of years.
“Prior to that, Enoch Powell, arguably – he was not afraid to hold his line even though the rest of the world was crashing around him.
“They’re very few and far between.”

Since Mr Farage’s departure from Ukip, support for the party has plummeted.

In the recent local elections, Ukip lost every seat it previously held, and gained only one from Labour in Burnley.
