Mr Whittaker, the MP for Calder Valley since 2010, said it was clear “on the doorstep” voters want to leave the Brussels bloc.
YouGov figures show a total of 68 per cent of people surveyed would like to see Britain withdraw from the European Union.
Speaking on RT UK, Mr Whittaker said voters understood what Brexit meant when they voted for it last June.
He said: “If you go out on the doorstep like all MPs and all candidates are doing during this General Election with a vengeance day after day after day.
Craig Whittaker said he was "not surprised" so many Remainers had switched sides
People understood when they went into the referendum that whatever the outcome would be, would be the direction of travel
“I think the poll that’s just been released is very representative of what’s happening on the doorstep.
“People understood when they went into the referendum that whatever the outcome would be, would be the direction of travel.
“So, no. I’m not surprised at all that there are so many people who were Remainers that are now saying actually no, we need to get on and do it.”
According to the YouGov data, twenty-three per cent admitted voting to remain but now want the UK to go straight ahead with cutting ties from Brussels.
Forty-five per cent in the survey of 5,248 adults described themselves as “Eurosceptics”.
Marcus Roberts, YouGov’s director of international projects, said: “The rise of the ‘Re-Leavers’ mean that the Conservatives are fishing in a massive lake, while the other parties are casting their rods into a pond.
“When discussing Brexit and its implications in the campaign the electorate is not two pools of voters split almost down the middle 52/48.
“Instead, it is one massive lake made up of Leave and Re-Leave voters and one much smaller Remain pond.”
