Andrew Neil savaged Giles Fraser, a left-wing journalist who supports Jeremy Corbyn, for trying to spin Labour's inept economic record into a strength.
Labour face a complete humiliation in the upcoming General Election but Mr Fraser said that the left-wing leader will make Britain "poorer and happier".
The bizarre boast was an attempt to dodge the Neil's question on whether the Labour leader could create wealth, instead of just redistributing it.

During the exchange on last night's This Week, Neil asked: "Before you can redistribute wealth, you have to create it. What evidence do you have that Corbyn can create wealth?"
Mr Fraser, who is also a Church of England priest, desperately tried to turn the flaw into a positive.
He said: "Well, the other way of looking at it is that Corbyn would make Britain more equal, but a poorer society.
"I would be happy with us being more equal but a poorer society.

The BBC anchor immediately jumped on the strange pledge to make the country poorer.
He mocked it as Labour's new "election-winning campaign slogan" amid catastrophic poll figures.
The Guardian journalist responded, saying that the media had an "obsession with giving power to these people who apparently make the money."

Mr Fraser continue to prop up the Labour leader, insisting that he would not need to stand down even in the case of an election wipeout.
