Jailed: Mum who crashed car with son in back after drinking vodka
A MUM who crashed while drinking from a bottle of vodka, as her son sat in the back of the car, has been jailed.
Tania Chikwature's car flew over a roundabout and flipped over
Tania Chikwature, 32, confessed to police she had “probably been drinking vodka” behind the wheel before hitting a roundabout island at speed, “taking off” and flipping over.
A lorry driver which Chikwature had just illegally overtaken said her Nissan “flew 14ft into the air”.
She was found to be three times over the drink-drive limit when she crashed on December 12 last year.
The court heard that her 20-month-old son, who was in the back of the car, did not suffer serious injuries in the crash.
Yesterday magistrates at Peterborough, Cambs, jailed Chikwature, who was wearing a neck brace, for 26 weeks.

She was also banned from driving for six years and ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.
District Judge Ken Sheraton told Chikwature, who had been driving from her home in Coventry to Peterborough for a wake, said: “It is only by luck that you are not here facing more serious charges. You are fortunate that someone did not die.”
