Nicola Sturgeon's case for independence DISMANTLED in EPIC Scottish Parliament rant
NICOLA STURGEON had her case for Scottish independence shot down moments before politicians voted to hold a second referendum.
Scottish Labour MSP: SNP's independence case is ill-thought through
Labour and Co-operative MSP Johann Lamont tore into the first minister’s reasoning for a second vote, labelling it "ill-thought-through".
The MSP for the Glasgow Region claimed the Scottish National Party needed to be “honest” and Brexit was just the latest in a list of excuses for the party.
But following three hours of arguments at Holyrood from the 128 MSPs yesterday, they voted in favour of Ms Sturgeon’s proposal by 10 votes.
Johann Lamont said the SNP's case for independence was "no more solid than ever"
It is remarkable that the proposition is no more solid than it ever was
In a speech at Holyrood, Ms Lamont said: “The SNP should be honest. They just want a referendum and if it were not this it would be something else.
“In the rush to hook their goal to this opportunity, it is remarkable that the proposition is no more solid than it ever was.
“At a time of insecurity, it’s simply astonishing to see a proposition represented so ill-thought-through on the currency, on the euro, on the deficit.
“This is not the action of a government serious in providing certainty in these troubled times."
Nicola Sturgeon's minority government won Tuesday’s vote following an extended debate thanks to support from the Scottish Greens.
But Prime Minister Theresa May has already said she will block another referendum while the Brexit process takes place, stating "now is not the time".
