Massive scrapyard blaze covers Glasgow in smoke as fire expected to last for days
A MASSIVE fire at a scrapyard blacked out the spring sunshine across Glasgow.

The blaze, near Rangers Football Club’s Ibrox Stadium in the Govan area of the city, sparked a massive response from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
Up to 50 firefighters were sent to the scene as burning cars, tyres and waste oil sent a plume of black smoke hundreds of feet into the air.
A number of eye witnesses reported seeing massive flames as the fire took hold and spread.

The fire occurred in the Govan area of the city
Fire crews were called to the blaze at about 4.30pm and crowds gathered outside an exclusion zone while the Police Scotland helicopter monitored the flames from high above.

It is understood the fire, at the Japanese Auto Parts yard, could take a number of days to completely extinguish.
Dramatic pictures were posted by residents on social media showing dark plumes of smoke billowing high above the city.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: “Almost 50 firefighters are currently tackling a blaze at a Glasgow scrapyard.

“A total of nine appliances, a high-volume pump and a forward control unit have been mobilised. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews are working to contain the fire which has affected large quantities of tyres and a number of vehicles.”
People in Govan were without power last night for safety reasons as firefighters try to get the fire under control.
