'They've all GONE!' Tory Nadine Dorries blasts Tom Watson as Labour MPs flee sinking ship
NADINE DORRIES has torn into Labour’s deputy leader Tom Watson by detailing all the party’s talented politicians that have left the party.
Nadine Dorries: The quality of Labour party is plummeting
The Tory MP reeled off a list of MP's who had left Labour in recent months including Tristram Hunt and Jamie Reed who left triggering by-elections in Stoke-on-Trent Central and Copeland.
Appearing on Peston on Sunday, Ms Dorries, MP for Mid-Bedfordshire, tussled with Tom Watson, over the divide in the party.
Asked by Peston whether Labour was going to split, the deputy party leader simply said “no”.
Nadine Dorries said all decent Labour MPs had gone
Where’s Jamie Reed, where’s Tristram Hunt? They’ve all gone
He said: “I completely reject what Nadine says by the way. Our parliamentary Labour Party is teaming with very, very talented politicians.”
But Ms Dorries then cut in to shoot him down, suggesting more party politicians would quit the party.
She said: “They’re leaving. Where’s Jamie Reed, where’s Tristram Hunt? They’ve all gone! There’ll be more going Tom.”
A squirming Watson said: “I look at Rachel Reeves, I look at Lucy Powell, I look at some of our leading backbenchers. They’re fantastic advocates for social democracy.”
To which Ms Dorries mocked that they were “on the backbenches”.
Tristram Hunt quit the House of Commons last month to trigger a by-election in Stoke-on-Trent Central.
Labour held the seat but Jeremy Corbyn suffered an embarrassing blow as they lost Copeland - previously held by Jamie Reed - to the Conservatives.
John McDonnell GRILLED over Labour defeat in Copeland
Trudy Harrison is the first Conservative MP for Copeland after snatching the Labour stronghold in what was a landmark victory for Theresa May’s party.
In Stoke, the new Labour MP Gareth Snell received 7.853 votes against Ukip leader Paul Nuttall’s 5,233 votes.
This was narrower than the result of the 2015 general election, where former Stoke MP Tristram Hunt had a majority of more than 5,000 votes.
