Buy British veg to beat shortage crisis, says Alan Titchmarsh
BUYING British is the best way to deal with the shortage of vegetables from the Continent, according to gardener Alan Titchmarsh, writes Jaymi McCann.
Alan Titchmarsh think people should support home-grown fruit and vegetables amid the veg crisis
He has urged people to use the “veg crisis” as a reminder that seasonal home-grown greens are best.
There have been reports of panic buying after supermarkets placed restrictions on produce from areas of southern Europe where crops have been devastated by extreme weather.
Alan believes it is much better to buy vegetables from Britain
Mr Titchmarsh said: “We should use this as a reminder that the most important thing is supporting home-grown fruit and vegetables. “We need to learn to use crops that come from our natural environment – not look for out-ofseason vegetables grown abroad.
Many supermarkets have been low on vegetable stock due to poor weather conditions in South Europe
It is much better to buy British.” This seems to be exactly what shoppers are doing, with sales of British-grown curly kale up 130 per cent on the same period last year.
