Britain WANTS a burka ban, poll reveals – as support in Germany soars
BRITONS want to BAN the burka according to a new poll which found more women than men want to outlaw the controversial Muslim headdress.

The new poll by YouGov, published on Tuesday, found 50 per cent of 1,609 people questioned wanted to ban the burka in Britain.
That number compared to 70 per cent of 7,101 Germans questioned in a separate YouGov survey.
The study shows a seven point increase in support to ban the burka in Germany, compared with a similar study in August last year.

In Britain, 50 per cent agreed to the statement saying ‘A law against wearing the full body and face veil should be introduced’.
Just 38 per cent of those questioned said ‘people should be allowed to decide for themselves what to wear (including burkas and niqabs)'.
UK support for a burka ban is down seven points compared with last August.
In both Germany and Britain, a person’s age is a stronger indicator of their support for a burka ban.

The study shows older generations are more likely to support a ban, with twice as many Britons over 65 (72 per cent) backing a ban compared with people aged 18-24 (36 per cent).
And 51 per cent of women in Britain wanted the ban, compared to 49 per cent of men.
In Germany every age group quizzed showed more support than opposition towards to a burka ban than a similar study conducted in August 2016.
A campaign to ban the garment in Germany is gaining traction and German Chancellor Angela Merkel also called for the burka to outlawed during the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party’s annual conference in December.

She said: “The full veil must be banned, wherever legally possible. Showing your face is part of our way of life.
“Our laws take precedence over honour codes, tribal customs and sharia”.
Her claims were met with cheers from her supporters, and the new survey results show support to outlaw the garment is on the rise.
The news comes as Dutch MPs voted to ban garment from public places, and if this ban because law the Netherlands will join Belgium, Bulgaria and France as the fourth EU country to stop people wearing a burka.
