The original Imperial Faberge eggs were made famous by Russian jeweller Peter Carl Faberge and his company, House of Faberge, between 1885 and 1917.
The most famous are those made for the Russian Tsars Alexander III and Nicholas II as Easter gifts for their wives and mothers, often called the "Imperial" Faberge eggs.

It is thought the jewelled egg stolen in the burglary was inspired by the Faberge collection by another company and one of a collection of 100 imported to the UK from Russia in 2012.
