Gary Carruthers, 35, pleaded guilty to possession of 30,000 indecent images of children, some of which were as young as two.
He was also found to have been in possession of two paedophile manuals, called ‘Childlovin’ and ‘Producing kiddie porn for dummies’, which he had altered by adding photographs of pupils from his school.

Carruthers is the first person in England to have been found guilty of possessing such manuals.
Judge Crawford blasted Carruthers for abusing the trust placed in him as a school caretaker
Despite putting in a guilty plea, Judge Crawford at Downpatrick Crown Court, noted that Carruthers, who she described as a “social loner”, had initially denied responsibility.
In the face of damning evidence, he then produced a statement for detectives in which he accepted “responsibility” and said: “I am deeply sorry for my actions. I do not wish to comment further.”
Judge Crawford slammed Carruthers for causing “great harm” to children by helping to maintain “the illegal and depraved industry which exploits and abuses children for the sexual gratification of adults.”
She added that Carruthers had abused the trust placed in him as a caretaker to take photos of children, which he used in “a vile and despicable fashion”.

It must be remembered that these are not victimless crimes - each image includes a child who has been abused
Since Carruthers has spend two years on license awaiting trial, he is now due for release.
He has been placed on the Sexual Offender’s Register indefinitely and will be subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) for the next 10 years.
Under the SOPO, he is banned from using any internet electronic devices without supervision. He is also banned from contacting anyone under 16, or living with minors unless approved by authorities.
An NSPCC spokesperson said it was important that individuals like Carruthers be brought before the courts.
The spokesperson said: ”It must be remembered that these are not victimless crimes - each image includes a child who has been abused.
"It is right that Carruthers, and anyone else who accesses these images, is brought before the courts to face justice and to help ensure that children are not placed at further risk."
