WIGAN became the party spot of choice for Britney Spears, Michael Jackson and Batman as drunken revellers descended on the town for its annual fancy dress night.

It is a tradition that takes the excesses of the festive season to another level and this year was no different as cowboys to cavegirls launched their alcohol-fuelled a night of anarchy.
And for many - the plunging temperatures didn't serve as a deterrent, as they took to the streets in a variety of skimpy outfits baring bottoms and midriffs.
One scantily clad pair of ladies locked lips while another struggled to contain her bust in an ill-fitting Little Red Riding Hood outfit.
One woman looked worse for wear in a bright blue dress, photographed resting her head in the lap of a young man wearing little more than a blonde wig.
Meanwhile a forlorn-looking Britney Spears lookalike, wearing her iconic Hit Me Baby One More Time outfit held his phone in one hand and a drink in the other as he stumbled towards the Pier.
A ginger man dressed in Nazi uniform wore a costume reminiscent of Prince Harry's famous gaffe 11 years ago while a man in a blue dress relieved himself against a concrete block.

More imaginative outfits included a pair of frog-like characters in green facepaint, green wigs and pink tutus.
But the festivities appeared to have got too much for some partygoers, with several ending up on hospital stretchers or led away by police.
The Boxing Day tradition has been around for years in the northern town but no one can remember when and why it first started.
