CIVIL servants are being offered acting lessons from the UK’s premier drama school in a bid to boost their performances abroad as they “sell” Britain to the rest of the world.

Whitehall departments have engaged the services of the world-famous Royal Academy of Dramatic Art to help civil servants perfect presenting skills.
The school, whose previous students include Alan Rickman and Kenneth Branagh, is currently advertising the courses in the civil service learning portal.

Since Britain voted to leave the European Union on June 23, there has been a flurry of ministerial visits to the far corners of the globe, including to India, China and Pakistan, as the Government begins the process of negotiating new trade deals.

The day-long courses, which cost up to £650, teach individuals how to “become a more successful and effective communicator”.
They may even need to learn some classic Shakespearean texts – suitably amended like the one on the right, of course.
A Cabinet Office spokeswoman said: “Since 2015, a small number of senior civil servants have attended workshops run by Rada to develop their leadership skills.”
