Britons 'thinking Brexit would lead to APOCALYPSE' stocking up on doomsday supplies
BRITONS have splurged on freeze-dried foods and even weapons as they believed that a successful Brexit vote would trigger a nuclear-style fallout.
People seemed to think that prepping was a good idea
In the week after the groundbreaking EU referendum vote, there was a surge in sales by up to a third at survivalist doomsday scenario shops across the country.
Lincoln Miles runs Preppers Shop UK in Bedfordshire and was astounded at the increase in sales compared to the week before the vote.
He said: "We had loads of orders coming in from customers for all sorts of products as people starting thinking it was a good time to start 'prepping'.
People stocked up on their survival gear
What was going to happen to the economy seemed to be fuelling their concerns
"Most of the sales were to new customers and were for household items such as freeze-dried food and water purification products.
"People were thinking there could be a financial collapse and how they would be able to eat.
"What was going to happen to the economy seemed to be fuelling their concerns."
Mr Miles, 23, said he believed the sales were to people who had voted for Brexit.
He said: "The general consensus amongst preppers was that they were voting out to gain more independence and more freedom.
"Of course we will have to wait and see what happens but I think in the meantime people are stocking up.

Sales have gone back to normal levels since the Brexit vote
"As soon as people realised it was a vote to leave I think there was an element of surprise and uncertainty and that was reflected in sales.
"It started on the Friday morning and during that week afterwards there was a 30 per cent increase in sales."
Despite scaremongering, the FTSE 100 is now on a high
Mr Miles said sales had returned to normal levels since the referendum fever had declined.
Despite David Cameron's scaremongering claims of financial chaos in the event of Brexit, the FTSE 100 has entered bull market territory and an 11-month high.
