LABOUR MP Yvette Cooper said she alerted police after receiving a death threat against her children and grandchildren over Twitter.

The Remain campaigner received the sinister messages on Tuesday from an account that accused her of sending EU "propaganda" by email, adding: "Please stop or I will kill your kids and grandkids".
Reposting the threatening tweet to her followers, Ms Cooper commented: "Got this today for speaking out for Remain... This has to stop".
The chilling threat comes under a week after pro-EU campaigner Jo Cox was stabbed and shot.

It is understood the account was removed after Mrs Cooper reported the tweet.
The MP for Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford told her followers: "Police & @Twitter on case. But this is for all of us. Time to stop the hatred."
Security has been stepped up following the murder of Mrs Cox after she was attacked in her constituency while on her way to her local surgery last Thursday.

Many MPs have spoken out about experiencing physical attacks and receiving threading messages in the wake of Mrs Cox's tragic death.
In a recent survey of 239 MPs, 43 had been subjected to an attack or attempted attack, while 101 received threats to harm them.

The report by psychiatrists working with the Home Office found assaults on MPs included "pulling a knife on me in the surgery", "repeatedly punched me in the face", "came at me with a hammer" and "shot with air rifle".
