Sex Pistols star Johnny Rotten fears going blind after childhood meningitis
PUNK icon John Lydon has revealed how he fears going blind after a childhood illness wrecked his vision.
The punk legend fears losing his sight
The 60-year-old Sex Pistols singer, once known as Johnny Rotten, said his sight has deteriorated so badly he can no longer read.
But he decided against laser eye surgery fearing further damage.
Lydon caught meningitis from dirty water when he was seven, damaging his eyesight as well as leaving him with curvature of the spine and memory loss.
If I couldn’t see the world around me that would be a terrific loss
He said: “My eyesight is going – it started from the meningitis. “I can’t read now. Even headlines in newspapers are blurry. I have to wear glasses on stage so I don’t walk off the edge.
“If I lost my vision completely that would be something I’d have to analyse in my mind. It’s gloomy.
