Astonished motorists watched as 20 caravans, many with satellite dishes, parked up in a group at the Welcome Break South Mimms services on the M25 in Hertfordshire.
Several men were seen play-fighting around the vehicles and the travellers refused to leave when spoken to by police officers.

One witness said the group “appeared to be quite at home, carrying on everyday life – albeit under the watchful eye of Hertfordshire Constabulary”.

A police spokesman said the intrusion was a matter of management and no offences had been committed.
Police were powerless to do anything about the gypsies
Motorists are allowed two hours of free parking at the service station, which is next to Junction 23 of the motorway.
