Express readers give sad Maggie a yappy ending after 12 years looking for a home
AFTER 12 years in a shelter, an unwanted dog is finally having her day - thanks to the tale of her plight in the Daily Express yesterday.
Maggie had been in the shelter since 2003
We told the story of whippet-cross Maggie, 13, who has been pining for a home since 2003.
Now, after being passed over by 50,000 people, Maggie has been inundated with offers across Britain, Canada and the US.
Steve Woodward of Serendipity Kennels near Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs, said Maggie had gone from being their most unwanted pooch to star attraction overnight.

It looks as if it will be a happy ending
"The response has been overwhelming," he said.
Pat Lawton, a shelter worker for 40 years, said: "We are delighted. It looks as if it will be a happy ending. The phone has not stopped ringing."
Staff will now sift through her offers so Maggie can start her a new life. Handler Carmen Hammond said: "If she could have a few last happy years in front of somebody's fire, it would mean the world to me."
