Tour firm warns of dearer holidays if Scotland gets independence
HOLIDAYS in the sun will become more expensive if Scotland gets independence, a travel firm warned yesterday.
Lowcostholidays said a Scottish breakaway “will threaten prices for holidaymakers”.
It said independence would be likely to weaken the pound, slashing its purchasing power abroad.
Holidays firms are also likely to have to set up separate operations in Scotland and pass the costs on to customers.
The warning came amid jitters on the financial markets over next week’s referendum. On Monday the pound fell to its lowest level in 10 months.
Lowcostholidays managing director Tim Buckman said: “The strength of the pound is a key factor in determining how holidays are priced.”
