Fuel price joy for drivers as major supermarkets drop prices of unleaded and diesel
MOTORISTS and their wallets have received good news today after two leading supermarkets announced they were cutting the price of petrol.
Tesco announced that from this afternoon petrol and diesel prices would be cut by 1p at their forecourts across the country.
Rival retailer Asda gave drivers a further boost by later announcing that from tomorrow morning petrol costs would be reduced by 1p and diesel by 2p.
The news comes as welcome news to motorists ahead of Chancellor George Osborne unveiling his latest Budget on March 19.
Peter Cattell, Category Director for Tesco Petrol Stations said: "From this afternoon, we’ll be cutting the price of petrol and diesel at all of our Petrol Filling Stations by 1 pence per litre.
"As Britain's biggest fuel retailer this means more motorists can make savings and earn Clubcard points at Tesco's Petrol Filling Stations than at any other fuel retailer."
Asda said motorists would from tomorrow pay no more than 132.7p a litre for diesel and 126.7p a litre for petrol.
The supermarket said the price cuts means they are offering diesel at its lowest level since July 2012.
Andy Peake, Asda’s Petrol Trading Director, said: “With Asda’s latest price cut we’re now seeing the lowest price on diesel since July 2012.
"We’re the only supermarket that has a national price cap on fuel, ensuring drivers know the price they will pay at the pump regardless of where they live."
