Russell Brand tells Cambridge University that Nick Clegg 'broke his word' on tuition fees
OUTSPOKEN comedian Russell Brand told Cambridge University students that Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrats broke their word on tuition fees.
The 38-year-old also said the current political system is "ripping people off" and that it is not serving the people.
Mr Brand was speaking at a member's only event held by the Cambridge Union Society which is famed for inviting politicians and acamdenics to speak.
Mr Brand defended himself when asked about encouraging people not to vote.
Give us something to vote for then we will vote for it. Give us a system that is truly representative
He said: "Give us something to vote for then we will vote for it.
"Give us a system that is truly representative."
The event was held in the university's debating hall and previous guest speakers include the Dalai Lama, Winston Churchill and Sir Ian McKellen.
He described the historic room as "like a magistrates court" and shocked a male student when he sat on while answering a question.
Mr Brand remained coy when asked if he would considering becoming a politician.
He said: "What sort of parliament is it and why couldn't I meander?"
"Lets see what happens."
Mr Brand also encouraged students to join his "revolution".
He had laid out his ideas for a political revolution during an interview with Jeremy Paxman on Newsnight last October.
When questioned about how he would encourage people to join his revolution he said he would "make it sexy".
He added: "Use this education that you are receiving to bring about ideas that can benefit not just you but all of us."
