Labour and Conservative councillors didn't pay their council tax
TWO councillors who ran up a £4,600 debt after failing to pay their own council tax for two years should be named, campaigners demanded yesterday.
The pair – one Labour and one Conservative – were issued with summonses by their own local authority and could be banned from voting on council finance decisions.
Both agreed to pay up before the cases came to court – preserving their anonymity.
But the TaxPayers’ Alliance has called for them to be identified.
The pair, serving on Bolton Council in Greater Manchester, were among six – three Labour and three Conservative – who were in arrears. All have now paid up.
Bolton Council said the two had not been identified because of data protection laws.
