Four men arrested in terror raids across London
POLICE have arrested four men on suspicion of terrorism offences in an intelligence-based probe.
Armed officers led the operation across the capital yesterday evening get the suspects in police custody.
All four are currently being held in a south London police station as police said public safety remains their overriding concern.
Six addresses in the London area are also being searched, a Scotland Yard spokesman said.
The four men are being held under the Terrorism Act 2000 on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.
Arrests took place around 19:10 BST last night in pre-planned intelligence-based operations.
Three men were arrested in east London. Two were arrested in Mansell Street, Whitechapel and one was arrested in Peckham Hill Street, Peckham.
The other man was arrested at a premises in Westbourne Grove, Bayswater.
A witness to the arrest at Westbourne Grove said: "There were probably in the region of two dozen officers.
"They were quick and very alert.
"It looked very organised, smooth and methodical.
"It looked like there was a great deal of planning and a great deal of resources had been put on to tackling this situation."
