Security alert forces easyJet plane to divert to Stansted Airport
AN easyJet passenger plane was diverted to Stansted Airport following a security alert this evening.
The plane which had 151 passengers and six crew members on board was travelling from Hamburg to Luton when the security alert happened.
The Airbus A319 aircraft landed at around 5.30pm and the plane was met by police officers who are no onboard the jet.
An easyJet statement said: "The safety and security of our passengers and crew is easyJet’s top priority and the airline is cooperating fully with the authorities."
The budget airline said passengers will be transferred to Luton Airport as soon as possible.
A spokesman for Stansted Airport said Essex Police are currently looking into the incident.
Essex Police said that there was no security threat and that no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
An Essex Police statement said: "Essex Police has concluded its series of security checks on board an easyjet flight which was diverted to Stansted Airport shortly after 5pm on Friday, October 11.
"The force was initially alerted to a potential security threat, but cleared the incident at 7pm with the assistance of Border Force and allowed the aircraft to continue on to its original destination, that being Luton airport. No passengers were forced to disembark the aircraft."
