75% of women's shoes ‘never worn’
WOMEN never wear three out of four pairs of shoes they own.
Thousands lay at the back of a wardrobe, discarded because they were uncomfortable, didn’t match an outfit or were unwanted gifts.
A baffling 41 per cent told a survey they owned expensive shoes they never wore – in case they got damaged.
Of more than 2,000 women polled, 86 per cent admitted they had at least one pair they don’t wear.
The average woman owns 20 pairs of shoes. Even at the cheaper end, at a cost of £24 a pair, a typical footwear collection would be worth £480. George Charles, of VoucherCodesPro.co.uk, which conducted the survey, said: “I was surprised to see how many women openly admitted to having wasted money on footwear, especially considering the cumulative cost of their shoe collection.”
The most common reason women give for why they don’t wear new shoes, at 60 per cent, is because they turn out to be too high or too tight.
Many said they were hard to match with an outfit.
Twenty per cent didn’t like them when they got them home.
