BBC Radio 5 Live listeners met with the sound of silence during breakfast show
MILLIONS of listeners to BBC Radio 5 Live were left confused this morning after the breakfast show kept cutting out.
About six million people tune into the radio station, which broadcasts on MW 693 and 909, with the breakfast show one of the most popular sections on the channel.
But this morning listeners were left listening to silence for minutes at a time as the transmission repeatedly cut out during Nicky Campbell's show.
We are aware that there's a problem and are working to fix it as soon as possible.
5 Live's Twitter feed said problems with the AM signal were causing problems in the south-east of England, and a spokeswoman for the BBC said: "We are aware that there's a problem and are working to fix it as soon as possible.
"We apologise to our listeners for any inconvenience in the mean time."
Earlier this week figures showed BBC Radio 1's breakfast show, hosted by Nick Grimshaw, had lost a million listeners since he took over from Chris Moyles in September 2012.
