Why ironing is such a chore
FOUR months of a woman’s life is spent just doing the ironing, a study has found.
And the pile of clothes the average mother irons over a lifetime would measure 4,094ft – four times the height of the Shard skyscraper in London.
The study, conducted by Philips PerfectCare, found females still do all of the ironing in four out of five households in the UK, getting little or no help from their partners or children.
Mother-of-three Natasha Cooke, 42, from Eastleigh, Hants, said: “I have three children and a husband who I’ve never seen pick up the iron.
There is a huge pressure on women to make sure they and their families look the part
“The amount of dirty clothes builds up during the week which means that I spend every Sunday ironing.”
Gemma McHenry, of Philips PerfectCare, said: “There is a huge pressure on women to make sure they and their families look the part.
“Creased shirts are not an option and these women find themselves constantly at the ironing board.”
