Winter fuel cash appeal
PENSIONERS who do not need a Winter Fuel Payment should give the cash to charity for old people who struggle, a Tory minister said yesterday.
Charities Minister Nick Hurd said he would “support, congratulate and encourage” anyone who handed the annual allowance to a worthy cause.
His remarks follow a bitter dispute within the Coalition over the future of universal age-related benefits, with Lib Dems pressing for well-off pensioners to be banned from receiving the cash.
