Customers vent anger at Comet
COMET customers were fuming yesterday after being told their gift cards and vouchers were worthless and faulty goods would not be replaced
Deloitte, administrator for the troubled electrical chain, said it would no longer accept vouchers until it had assessed the situation and would supply goods that had been paid for only if they were still in stock.
Customers who ordered goods not in stock or had paid deposits were left out of pocket.
The chain’s 236 stores were besieged yesterday by thousands of angry customers.
Disgruntled customer Richard Alvin tweeted: “Comet experience went well this morning! No stock to buy, only selling contents of shop floor at normal price & won’t accept £600 voucher.”
Michael John had bought a vacuum cleaner from the store in Mortlake in south-west London on Thursday but had found it damaged. He said: “They won’t exchange it because they’re in liquidation. They say the liquidators won’t allow it.”
No one has any idea what’s going on. All we can do is rant and rave at staff but that doesn’t help the situation
On Friday police were called to a branch in Rotherham, South Yorkshire after 30 customers turned up demanding goods they had paid for. Crowds gathered outside branches in Manchester and Truro in Cornwall. Some 6,611 Comet jobs are at risk.
Customer Gillian Moore, 45, from Leicester said: “No one has any idea what’s going on. All we can do is rant and rave at staff but that doesn’t help the situation.
