Hero Andy Murray back on home turf
ANDY Murray could not help but smile yesterday, with a US Open win behind him, two Olympic medals and 15,000 fans lining the streets of his home town.
All morning they fended off torrential rain and passed the long wait performing Mexican waves and singing: “There’s Only One Andy Murray.”
The sun broke through as he arrived in an open-top bus with his family.
The tennis ace spent two hours posing for photos and signing autographs as he made his way along the High Street in Dunblane, Perthshire, with fans 10 deep on both sides.
To show such support and hang around for so long in the rain and cold was unbelievable
Schoolchildren gasped before trying on his medals.
Murray said: “To show such support and hang around for so long in the rain and cold was unbelievable.”
Thea Denton, 32, said: “Andy was looking good. He was on a schedule but didn’t seem to care, he was just posing for pictures and signing autographs.”
