Highland fling for brave Prince Philip
RECENT illness couldn’t stop Prince Philip cheering on the athletes at the Highland Games yesterday .
It was feared he would miss the traditional Braemar Gathering just a few miles from the Queen’s holiday home, Balmoral Castle, where he has been staying since being discharged from hospital on August 20.
There were concerns for his health following a recurrence of the bladder infection he picked up in June after braving the wet and windy conditions on the royal barge during the Thames Jubilee pageant.
The 91-year-old Duke recently spent five nights at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary as a “precaution”.
He went to church at Crathie Kirk with the Royal Family last Sunday but there were still worries about his health.
However, displaying his well-known fortitude, he appeared alongside the Queen, who is patron of the Games, Princess Anne, Charles and Camilla at The Princess Royal and Duke of Fife Memorial Park.
