Windsor's crying need
MORE than 100 years after the streets around Windsor Castle echoed to calls of “Hear ye, hear ye”, the council is advertising for a town crier.
Men or women will be expected to “cry” at the interview to see if their lungs are up to it.
Councillor Alan Mellins said: “There was a town crier in Windsor up until 1899.”
The borough of Windsor includes Maidenhead, where the last town crier left his post in 1922.
The new crier will get a traditional uniform and hand bell.
